Stephen Morris had a very interesting upbringing growing up in Gary Indiana. Stephen was raised by his mother in low income projects… while his mother studied at Purdue University to obtain her goal as an accountant. Stephen at a very young age understood the values of hard work, discipline & consistency.
When Stephen was 12 his mother decided that they move to Southern California. Stephen found this very challenging dealing with all the different cultures California had to offer. Though Stephen had to adapt he knew this new chapter of his life would be very different.
Stephen was inspired to do music by his older brother. Stephen’s brother was very protective & the main reason why he was never really bullied. This allowed Stephen to move freely with his creativity.
One thing that set Stephen apart from everyone else was his ability to market himself. Stephen started from selling his mixtapes out the truck of his car. That same drive is also what gained an audience in his community & the respect as an artist.
Today Stephen sees his tough upbringing as his strength not his weakness. Everything he overcame would be expressed through his art.
Stephen’s story is a prime example of taking a negative & equaling a positive through the power of music.
